A Healthy Tropical Alternative

When you think of coconuts the image of palm-lined beaches
and clear blue water surely comes to mind, but did you know
coconuts also may help protect your heart? Because coconuts
contain more saturated fat than butter, at one time many
health experts believed that consuming this sweet treat
would result in clogged arteries and heart disease.
However, studies show that the benefits of coconuts
outweigh the possible risks, which should please those with
tropical fever. In a study published in Clinical
Biochemistry, 2004 1, researchers looked at coconut oil as
a component of diet in laboratory animals (Sprague-Dawley
rats). In this study, virgin coconut oil, which was
obtained by wet process, had a beneficial effect in
lowering total cholesterol, triglycerides, phospholipids
and low-density lipoproteins (LDL).

Even though coconuts do have a high saturated fat count,
more than 50% of that is lauric acid. A study in the
American Journal of Clinical Nutrition reported that
although lauric acid raises LDL ("bad") cholesterol, it
raises HDL ("good") cholesterol even more. The other 50% of
the saturated fat content is made up of fatty acids that
have little or no effect on cholesterol. Lowering your
cholesterol levels is one of the easiest ways to reduce
your risk of heart disease, so it looks like coconuts are
back on the menu!

This tasty tropical treat is still high in calories, so
don't overdo it. Instead, buy a bag of shredded coconut and
have just a handful as a mid-morning snack or mixed into
your trail mix. Try to avoid a sudden spike in your blood
sugar by making sure you consume bagged coconut that is
free of added sweeteners. If you'd like to try cooking with
coconut milk, try a delicious grilled coconut shrimp or
coconut-crusted chicken on a balmy summer evening for a
change of pace. If you're really in the coconut tropical
mood, go ahead and plant a palm tree, buy a set of tiki
torches, have a Caribbean cookout, because you'll be jam'in
to a healthier you!

Recipe (serves 2)

Coconut Crusted Shrimp
20 medium shrimp
1 tsp. garlic and herb seasoning
1/2 tsp. black pepper
3/4 cup flour
2 medium eggs, well-beaten
1 cup shredded coconut

Directions

Preheat oven to temperature 400 F.
Spray a large baking sheet with nonstick spray. Sprinkle
garlic and herb seasoning and pepper evenly over the shrimp.
Place the flour, egg, and coconut in three small separate
bowls.
Dip shrimp into the egg, then the flour, then the egg
again, and then into the coconut.
Place shrimp on the baking sheet at least 1 inch apart.
Bake for about 12-15 minutes, or until they are crisp and
golden brown.
Serving suggestion: dip in mango sauce.

—————————————————-
Beth Aldrich is an Integrative Health and Nutrition Coach,
writer and public speaker; she also publishes
http://www.ForHerInformation.com , an online magazine for
women and she is the host of the Seattle and online radio
show, A Balanced Life with Beth Aldrich.
1.

Is Aerobic Exercise Right For You?

There is a long standing myth that aerobic exercise,
otherwise known as cardio in the inner sanctum that we call
the gym or fitness center, is the absolute Holy Grail when
it comes to losing weight.

It's very unfortunate that this MYTH is still being
perpetuated since it is quite possibly the worst way to
lose fat, other than camping out on the couch eating bon
bons.

On top of that, an exercise program consisting solely of
cardio or aerobic exercise is a nearly certain path to a
plateau, frustration, and, in many cases, failure.

Although it all started with good intentions, let me paint
you a little picture on why aerobic exercise by no means
the end-all and be-all for weight loss. Imagine one of
those mammoth, jacked-up, diesel-guzzling behemoths of an
SUV being driven around your neighborhood by the
stay-at-home mom with a single child.

Inefficient and quite possibly downright wasteful, right?

Now imagine one of those goofy-shaped, 80-mile-per-gallon,
quiet, metallic lime green hybrids sneaking up on you at a
more rapid rate driven by your Birkenstock-wearing,
ultra-liberal neighbor.

A picture of efficiency, right?

The latter is exactly what slow, steady aerobic exercise
program turns the body into when it comes to burning fat.
When the name of the game is fast fat-loss, we want to be
as inefficient as possible, a big 'ol diesel SUV with 35"
wheels on it just for good measure.

So how do you safely dive into the world of fast-results
exercise when you aren't exactly sure what to do and
definitely don't want to get injured? Simple, really.

Move your body. Yup! Move in lots of different directions
and angles. You will be surprised at how much effort it
takes just to move your body. I do have a caveat, however.

Bodyweight exercise is a great tool, but if you are
severely overweight (+50 lbs or more) the exercise circuit
described below may be a little too challenging. You
probably should use a very specific regimen that is
customized to your needs and orthopedic conditions.

That being said, let's get into the good stuff. This is a
little circuit that you can use and get a good sweat going.
It can be performed on a daily basis and will provide an
excellent beginning exercise stimulus.

– Planks – Start by lying on the floor. Lift your body up,
and with forearms and feet as your points of support, hold
this position by pulling in your stomach.

– Lunges – Take a step forward. Stop all forward momentum
and lower yourself by bending the knee and hip of your
front leg, trying to lower the front hip straight down.
Concentrate on keeping your trunk centered over your hips.

– Push-ups – Start with your hands directly underneath your
shoulders. From here lower your chest towards the floor,
ideally reaching a level where your upper and lower arms
form a 90 degree angle. Be sure not to sag at the hips or
lower back as this will make the push-up impossible to do
correctly.

Women, if you cannot do full push-ups, start in the same
position but with your hands elevated on something like a
countertop or chair. Gradually reduce the elevation as you
become stronger.

– Inch worms – Squat down as if you were having to use the
facilities in a foreign country. From this position, lean
forward, place your hands on the floor, and walk out until
your body is parallel to the floor.

– Get-ups – Start by lying on your back on the floor. The
goal is to move into a standing upright position without
having to use any other objects for assistance.

General instructions:

Complete the circuit 2-5 times.

Depending on your fitness level, spend 20-60 seconds on
each exercise.

Be sure to increase the number of times you repeat each
exercise or increase the amount of time spent performing
each exercise every 2 weeks.

This little program can be done every day. And if you
don't take the easy way out by continuing to do the same
amount week after week, you will make consistent progress
with both your level of fitness and amount of fat-loss.

hich, of course, is much better than the same hours spent
on the treadmill or in aerobic classes, only to be rewarded
with plateaus and frustrations.

So press on the gas and let the engine roar. Smoke the
tires and watch your fat-burning machine speed down the
fat-loss super highway with total body exercise.

—————————————————-
Troy M.

Wasp Information and How to Control Them

Wasps

The wasp is a common problem throughout summer in the UK
and other parts of Northern Europe. They are social insects
that form colonies inside nests. Nests are often found in
soil banks, roof spaces, and in areas within trees and
walls.

Biology

The queen wasp will emerge from its hibernation around
mid-April time and will search for a suitable site for her
colony. The queen wasp will then build the foundations of
the nest by using chewed bark and dried timber mixed with
saliva. The nest at this point is no bigger than a golf
ball in size and within this nest she lays between 10 and
20 eggs. The first brood of adult workers takes over the
tasks of enlarging the nest and providing food for
subsequent eggs laid down by the queen. By the end of the
summer, the nest can contain between 3000 and 5000 wasps
and measure over 30 cm across.

Later in the summer, males and young queens emerge and
mating occurs. Once fertilised, the queen flies away to
find a suitable site for the winter. Once the cooler
weather comes, the workers and remaining males become
lethargic, and they feed off ripe and over-ripe fruits.
This can produce aggressive behaviour to anyone interfering
with them.

The onset of the cold weather kills off all of these
workers and males, and it is only the queen that survives
in hibernation to start a new colony in the spring.

Importance

Wasps do visit bins, waste depots and dead animal bodies
and therefore they have the possibility of spreading
diseases, but they are mainly known for their nuisance in
the late summer.

In the early parts of summer, wasps are too busy collecting
food for the nest, however later in the season as the
larval rearing decreases, the workers and males turn to
sweeter products and they become nuisances in homes,
bakeries, offices etc. They also have the ability to sting
apparent threats, a habit which increases as the insect
becomes more irritable with the onset of the cooler
weather, and the feeding on fermented, over-ripe fruits.

Control

Some people are allergic to wasp stings, but nonetheless,
it still becomes an irritant if you're not. Wasps are
generally easy to control if access to the nest can be
achieved. Control of adults in flight alone will unlikely
to exert much control over an active nest, however
strategic positioned wasp traps, such as Waspbane, will
attract nuisance wasps away from sensitive areas for
example children play-areas or public parks and gardens.

The main aim should be to disable the nest by applying a
residual insecticide to the nest entrance. If the nest in
found in a loft space, shed or anywhere indoors, the use of
mini-smoke generators is beneficial to knock down the
majority of the worker wasps. Wasps re-entering the nests
will need to come into contact with the residual dust, and
they will naturally walk to product into the nest, thus
killing it off.

Nests are often found in loft spaces, cavity walls, behind
cladding, in flower beds etc. Be careful when treating
wasps in loft space etc. and make sure there are no signs
of bat activity.

In general residual dusts are far better then residual
sprays. Most residual dusts are ideal, for example,
bendiocarb and pyrethriod.

An Air Force Career is Enhanced by Education

There are many exciting directions a career in the Air
Force can go. With so many different career paths, it can
seem like a daunting task to advance in the Air Force. The
purpose of this article is to explain how an Air Force
career in largepart depends on your level of education.

A key element to Air Force advancement is education.

As soon as an enlistee joins the Air Force, they are
enrolled in America's largest community college, the
Community College of the Air Force (CCAF) at Maxwell AFB.
The CCAF is dedicated solely to Air Force personnel,
combining on-duty and voluntary off-duty courses that help
Air Force airmen achieve their Associates Degree in Applied
Science in one of five career areas of the Air Force.
Enlisted airmen and officers have access to 13 different
schools, stationed all over the country to further their
education and careers.

The Air Force places a premium value on education;
accordingly, the Air Force has established programs that
help you pay for college; one program is the Air Force
Tuition Assistance (TA) program. The TA program pays 100
percent of the cost of college courses with a limit of
$4,500 per fiscal year. Being in the Air Force also
entitles you to the assistance from the Montgomery G.I.
Bill.

Both enlisted airmen and officers have unique programs that
provide assistance with furthering education. For officers
working on engineering or meteorological, the Air Force
Technical Degree Sponsorship Program (TDSP) helps you earn
money while finishing your college education. As an
officer in the Air Force you could be paid to continue on
with your graduate studies at Air University, state
colleges or universities around the world.

A program for those considering enlisting in the Air Force
is the College Loan Repayment Program (CLRP). This program
helps people who have taken a few college courses by
compensating some of the costs. At the time of signing the
enlistment contract this program can be signed up for as
well.

Air Force advancement is competitive and is available for
those airmen and officers who successfully seek out and
pursue professional development, especially through
higher-education opportunities. Air Force advancement
involves more than technical, scientific or advanced
specialty training – it requires an aptitude for lifelong
learning. In other words, pursuing an advanced degree may
help Air Force personnel demonstrate their leadership
potential.

Officer careers in the Air Force require a higher-education
degree and demonstrated ability to lead. For example,
flight specialties in the Air Force, including fighter
pilots, are officers that have received advanced training
and education. Technical engineering, advanced scientific,
and management positions are available on the officer Air
Force career path.

Enlisted careers in the Air Force include mechanical,
administrative, and many technical opportunities to work on
high technology defense equipment like aircraft, munitions,
and sensitive electronic systems. For example, electronic
professionals in the Air Force work on avionics systems,
surveillance and remote sensing technology, as well as
missile and space programs, including satellites (source:
Air Force website).

To be competitive for Air Force advancement opportunities,
a higher level of education is needed. Regardless of the
career path chosen with the Air Force, a willingness to
learn and apply oneself will increase these opportunities.
Working towards a degree that is relevant to Air Force
goals can set the precedent for a successful Air Force
career, whether it is an officer career or an enlisted
career.

—————————————————-
Henley-Putnam University is a leading educational
institution in the field of Strategic Security. For more
information on Henley-Putnam University, call 888-852-8746
or visit us online at http://www.henley-putnam.edu

Is a Destination Club Membership Right For YOU?

Destination Club offers members all of the benefits of
luxury living, in exquisite dream locations, around the
world, at a fraction of the cost of (owning and
maintaining). Members get access to beautifully appointed
locations worldwide.

For those that can afford the one-time membership fee and
annual membership dues, members have choice access to a
slew of luxury vacation homes around the world, which can
be booked based on availability and reservation
requirements.

Destination clubs allow for more desired choices and less
overhead than other similar type clubs because members do
not have nor want any deeded ownership.

Destination clubs generally do not give members an
ownership stake in real estate. Rather, the club is
structured more like a country club. With average
membership deposits of $200,000 to $400,000 (usually 80%
refundable), annual dues start out around $15,000 to
$30,000 with stays from 14 to 30 days.

Given that one of the least expensive clubs still costs
$50,000 to join, it's clear the destination clubs are
mindfully aimed at travelers with the comfortable means to
vacation in style.

The costs for Destination club membership is undoubtedly
higher than that for ordinary timeshares, as the type of
higher end clientele is much more used to a pampered
lifestyle than that of the typical timeshare buyer.

Destination clubs provide luxurious and elegant
surroundings, flexible travel and beautifully appointed
destinations all over the world.

Private Residence Clubs provide the feel of luxury hotel
living but also the partial ownership of a second home.
Their offerings are generally smaller than destination club
residences: 750 to 3,000 square foot villas.

Families or groups who require larger residences – three or
more bedrooms of at least 2,000 sq ft and above will find
that Destination clubs are especially well suited for their
personal needs. They will, however need for their travel
schedule to fit within the availability structure of the
club.

With all that is said and done, however, there are some who
are most likely not cut out for the average Destination
club mentality. Those who prefer traveling at the last
minute, individuals or lone couples without
children, grandchildren, or friends to invite may
not be able to justify the expense of a destination club.

With that in mind, they are generally better off with some
other kind of vacation option.

It then all comes down to what each potential member's
needs are that determines if a Destination club membership
is right for them.

—————————————————-
Audrey Daniels is a writer, mom and self titled "Referral
Vacationista."
Please visit her website: http://ReferralVacationing.com

Make Peace with Carbs

It's interesting how many diets "claim" that carbohydrates
are unhealthy for you and that we shouldn't eat them! And,
that this simple food group (which has many varying levels
of quality) is being called the culprit in America's
obesity problem. This advice is an unfair generalization of
food. By comparison, take a look at the lean yet strong
bodies of Japanese people, who regularly consume
high-carbohydrate diets composed of large amounts of rice
and starchy vegetables, with this in mind then, it's
impossible to conclude that all carbs lead to weight gain.

Whole grains have been a key component to the human diet
since the time began, when we stopped hunting and gathering
and settled into farming communities. Until very recently,
people living in these communities, on all continents, had
lean, strong bodies. In the Americas, corn was the staple
grain, and in India and Asia, it was rice. In Africa,
people had sorghum and millet. People in the Middle East
enjoyed pita bread and couscous. In Europe, it was corn,
millet, wheat, rice, pasta and dark breads. Even beer,
produced by grain fermentation, was considered healthy. In
Scotland, it was oats. In Russia, they had buckwheat or
kasha. For generations, very few people eating grain-based
diets were overweight.

So why is it different today? Well, nowadays people are
gaining weight because they are eating too much artificial,
processed, and chemicalized food. If Americans were eating
bowls of freshly cooked whole grains and vegetables every
day instead of processed junk food, we would not have a
nation of overweight children (and parents). Whole grains,
such as quinoa, are some of the best sources of nutritional
support, containing high levels of dietary fiber and B
vitamins and yes—protein (vegans rejoice). Because
the body absorbs them slowly, grains provide long-lasting
energy and help stabilize blood sugar.

As a parent, this is great news because now, you are armed
with some alternatives to the buttered noodles and white
rice. Try some steamed quinoa or millet, or perhaps some
buckwheat or kasha—and yes, add some butter or soy
sauce for flavor. Just let the your kids experiment and
you'll be surprised at what they'll come up with!

Two " Healthy Carb" Recipes

Toasted Millet Pilaf

Serves 4 to 6

1 1/4 cups millet

2 tablespoon extra-virgin olive oil

1 cup finely diced onion

1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh rosemary leaves (I put in
almost 2 tspn)

1 teaspoon sea salt or kosher salt

1 cup peeled and coarsely grated carrot (about 2 carrots)

1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper (Optional)

Finely grated zest of 1 orange (Or use lemon instead)

3 quarter-sized slices fresh ginger (vary amount based on
taste)

Freshly squeezed juice of 1 orange (1/4 cup)

1/3 cup toasted pumpkin seeds (really makes this dish
yummy!)

1. In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the millet
for 5 minutes, stirring and shaking the pan for even
toasting. Transfer to a bowl.

2. In a medium, heavy saucepan, warm the oil over medium
heat. Add the onion, rosemary, and salt, and cook,
stirring occassionally, for 5 minutes. Add the carrot,
cayenne pepper, orange zest, and ginger and cook and stir
for 2 more minutes.

3. Stir in the millet, orange juice, and 2 1/3 cups of
water. Raise the heat and bring to a boil.

4. Reduce the heat, cover, and simmer for 25 minutes. Turn
off the heat and let stand, covered, for 5 minutes. Fluff
with a fork and serve sprinkled with toasted pumpkin seeds.
(You can toast your pumpkin seeds in a skillet w/ some
olive oil and sea salt, or on a baking sheet in the oven.)
Apple "Cookies"

apples plain yogurt vanilla oatmeal for brown sugar cinnamon

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F.

Peel, core and slice apples (approximately 1⁄4"
thick).

Combine some oatmeal and brown sugar in a bowl.

Mix a little vanilla extract into some plain yogurt in
another bowl or shallow dish.

Dip apple slices first in yogurt, and then into oatmeal
mixture to coat.

Lay dipped/coated slices on a greased cookie sheet,
sprinkle with a little cinnamon. Repeat with as many apple
slices as you like.

Bake for about an hour, until apple slices have softened
and browned (the consistency will be like a
moist-dehydrated apple).

Cool and serve!

REVEALED: How to Reach the Top Rung of Credibility, Power & Influence

It is no secret that we live in the age of information
overload. No matter where we look, eat, sleep or breathe,
we are bombarded with information. The problem is that our
potential clients are too. So how do we cut through the
clutter?

For starters, we have to build credibility with our
audience and get them to begin looking for our messages,
because they know that what we say has value. How do we do
that? Let me show you.

Let's take a look at a simple principle that I call the
Ladder of Credibility, Power & Influence.

At the bottom of the ladder you have the Generalist.

The Generalist is anyone who has a general knowledge about
the subject matter at hand. You can lump many people into
this category, because a generalist is anyone with a
working knowledge of the subject who has no specialized
niche.

On the first rung of the ladder, there is the Expert.

The Expert specializes in and should ideally know
everything about a narrow field. In our society, we value
the opinion of the expert more than that of the generalist.
If you don't believe me, imagine that you have a brain
tumor. Who would you call first: your family practice
doctor or a brain specialist? That's what I thought.

Towering above the Generalist and the Specialist, the
Celebrity is at the second rung of the ladder.

I know it sounds a bit absurd, but studies show that in a
marketing message, consumers will value what a celebrity
has to say over pretty much any expert you can put in front
of them. One example is the long-running infomercial for
the acne medication, ProActiv , which is a product of
Guthy-Renker, one of the most successful direct marketing
companies in the world. They pay celebrities, including
Jessica Simpson, Sean "P. Diddy" Combs, Jennifer Love
Hewitt, Vanessa Williams and Serena Williams, to convince
consumers that their product is the right solution to fight
acne. They could afford any physician in the world for the
amount that they have to pay these celebrities, but the
celebrities outperform the experts all day long.

Last but not least, the Holy Grail top rung on the ladder
of Credibility, Power & Influence is the Celebrity Expert.

Not many celebrities ever rise to the status of Celebrity
Expert, but you can bet that when they do, their marketing
planner is full! In order to reach this status, the
celebrity has to find a way to communicate their knowledge
of a subject to consumers. This can be done in many ways:
by writing a book, sharing their knowledge with another
celebrity like Larry King, or posting blogs on their
website. There are many ways to do this; the point is that
to reach this status, the celebrity has to do more than
just be good at their chosen profession, e.g. acting,
music, sports. Consumers value a celebrity expert over all
other categories of people who deliver marketing messages.
Some great examples of Celebrity Experts are Rachael Ray
(Cooking), Martha Stewart (Domesticity), Donald Trump (Real
Estate), Oprah (Self-Help), Robert Allen (Real Estate), Jay
Abraham (Marketing), Dan Kennedy (Marketing), and there are
many more. If you don't know who all of these Celebrity
Experts are, that's ok! To their chosen niche, they are
celebrities and experts on their subject matter.

The point here is that most people's preconceived notions
about who consumers listen to are wrong. If you are willing
to put in a lot of time and effort, you too can reach
Celebrity Expert status and turn your prospects into raving
fans.

—————————————————-
WANT TO SEE MORE ARTICLES LIKE THIS ONE?
See The Business Growth Blog at
http://www.DicksNantonAgency.com
Additional Resource: If you'd like to learn more about the
steps you need to take to become a Celebrity Expert and see
the view from the top of the ladder of Credibility, Power &
Influence, check out some of the resources we have compiled
for you at http://www.CelebrityBrandingYou.com

Travel Review – We Were Blessed by Visiting Manzanillo, South of Puerto Vallarta, and Vida del Mar

Copyright 2008 Ed Bagley

I had some serious doubts about whether my first trip to
Mexico would be a success. Now I can report that my first
trip to Mexico was fantastic because I found a slice of
heaven at Vida del Mar in Manzanillo (Mon-zah-knee-oh).

There are apparently some very famous places to vacation in
Mexico, not the least of which are Puerto Vallarta,
Mazatlan, Acapulco and Cancun. Most of these destinations,
to my knowledge, are resort areas with high traffic. Vida
del Mar in Manzanillo is not.

Manzanillo, like Puerto Vallarta, is on the Pacific Coast,
perhaps 150 miles south of Puerto Vallarta as the crow
flies.

My first impression on landing at Manzanillo's airport was
that it was the smallest airport I have ever been in and
also the cleanest. Vida del Mar is not a huge tourist area
crawling with young adults looking for drinking holes and
social action, but a perfect place for senior citizens to
enjoy the beauty of the area in a quiet setting.

Vida del Mar is a gated, guarded, closed community of condo
owners whose residences sit halfway up a mountainside
looking onto a gorgeous bay. There is exactly one road in
with a guard on duty 24/7. I felt safer there than in any
major metro area in the United States.

We were staying with my son's family in a condo owned by a
couple whose children go to the same private Catholic
school as my grandson does in Lacey, Washington. Their unit
was on the corner of the second floor in 1 of the 13 condo
buildings with 3 swimming pools in the development. The
units faced south in the middle of well-manicured lawns and
lush tropical gardens.

I thought sleeping at night might be a problem as the
clear, sunny days were hot and there was no air
conditioning. Imagine my surprise when night arrived, and
we felt the cool breezes off of the Pacific Ocean by
leaving our screened in patio doors open.

The coastline in Manzanillo lies more east to west than
north to south, you can even get sea breezes during the
day. Because the condos face south, the air rises up into
the neighboring Sierra Madre Mountains, cools off at 14,000
feet, and at night comes gently floating back down to the
sea, producing excellent sleeping conditions as the condos
are above sea level.

Apparently condos at sea level in that area get what most
resorts get, very little breeze at night and insects.
Sitting high up the mountain is a distinct advantage to the
condo owners.

Only a few minutes away from Vida del Mar is Club Santiago
with the "Beach Club" that most condo owners join. Club
Santiago is the most exclusive housing area in Manzanillo,
with homes starting at $12 million pesos ($1 million in
United States dollars). The beach at Club Santiago reminded
me of Cape Cod in Massachusetts.

The architecture in Mexico is excellent. There are no
wood-frame homes, everything is built in cement, even the
cushions for the furniture in the condo had a cement base.
The doors have archways that are far superior to our
rectangular American construction. The floors are all in
tile, again, far superior to our American rugs and laminate
wood floors.

The Hispanic architectural influence is also efficient,
effective and downright utilitarian. Condos are space
sensitive and creative use of the space available is a
premium. I saw a washer and dryer in a single unit that fit
to the inch in the space available within the designated
laundry area. It was impressive use of space to say the
least.

In the United States, everything that is bigger is supposed
to be better. Careless and useless wasted space is not
nearly as neat and tidy, not to mention just plain more
ostentatious. The judicious use of built-ins for storage
areas was also efficient, effective and helpful.

Vida del Mar also has one of the most romantic restaurants,
La Recief, which is located on a cliff high above the
Pacific Coast. Looking out to the Pacific Ocean, a halogen
light at night beams light out to the waves as they come
cascading into the shoreline below. The food is top notch
and the servers are performance servers, preparing dishes
at your table.

Given the choice of any romantic setting at a restaurant
that I could find to impress my date, I would take her to
La Recief.

Outside of the Vida del Mar complex, the local Manzanillo
citizens are rarely bilingual, except for some restaurant
owners downtown and a few of their servers.

On the second floor balcony of the unit, looking out to the
surrounding bay, I thought that this is EXACTLY the sort of
place that Ernest Hemingway would have retreated to when
writing his next novel low key, secluded, quiet and
beautiful.

I almost selfishly thought about not writing about my trip
to Manzanillo and Vida del Mar as word may get around and
then everything that makes it a little slice of heaven
might be less so in the coming years. Because Vida del Mar
is what it is, I could not restrain myself.

—————————————————-
Read my movie reviews on families, including "My Big Fat
Greek Wedding", "Secondhand Lions", "The Chorus (Les
Choristes in French)" and "Waking Ned Devine".

Make Your Car More "Green"

If you have been to the pump lately it might be your wallet
that makes you want to go more "Green" with your car then
before. As it relates to the environment automobiles
account for 20% of all greenhouse gases emitted into the
air. How ecological friendly you handle your car is one of
the best ways to reduce your carbon footprint. Still the
only way to offset your carbon footprint is to plant trees.
Listed below are the Top 10 things you can do to make your
car more "Green."

1. Buy a Hybrid Car or Green Car

Yes, it doesn't take rocket science to understand that if
you buy a more environment friendly car you have reduced
your carbon footprint. Hybrids now come in sedans, SUV,
and luxury vehicles. If buying a hybrid right now isn't in
your budget choosing a car with excellent gas mileage is
going to make a big difference.

2. How You Drive

You drastically increase the fuel you consume and the
emissions your car gives off when you accelerate quickly
and stop quickly. Driving the speed limit and more smooth
as it relates to aggressive driving through the city will
save on your gas bill. Also, the more you can take care of
all your errands in one trip is better than many short
trips to the store.

3. Keep Your Car in Shape

Regular tune ups of your car will keep your car producing
less greenhouse gases, using less gas, and prevents future
trouble. It is estimated that if every American's tires
were properly inflated to the right level we would save 3
billion gallons of gas every year.

4. Offset Carbon Footprint

You can plant trees to offset the greenhouse gases you are
emitting each year. Planting trees is the only way to
offset your carbon footprint.

5. Carpool

If you have been on the freeway during rush hour you see
all the commuters driving by themselves. Not only will you
drastically lower your impact on the environment by
carpooling you get to go in the carpool lane, as well.

6. You Don't Need a Car for Everything

For short trips you can take your bike or walk. With cars
we don't even think about the other ways we can travel; we
just hop in our cars and off we go. Many store items can
easily be carried on a bike with a backpack. Also, you can
get an electric scooter to get places faster.

7. Drive Half Way

For some trips walking or your bike isn't the complete
answer. Driving your car and then getting on mass transit
or driving your car and then parking to then go on your
bike both work. Many times if you are going during rush
hour, driving until the traffic gets thick and then going
on your bike will get you there faster than sitting in the
bumper to bumper traffic.

8. Use Less AC

Using a windshield protector can reduce how hot your car
gets allowing you to use less air conditioner in the car.
Turn your AC on low instead of high uses less gas. Don't
forget to park in the shade to also keep your car cooler.

9. Use the Web

With the easy access to the web these days you can have
video conferences, send email, and buy your products
online. A video chat can be just as good as a face to
face meeting without using gas and your car.

10. Go without a Car

For those that are willing to take it on it can be done.
You would be surprised with a change in thinking how it is
possible for some to go without a car. Using physical
transportation like a bike and mass transit can get you
around. Also, for those that want to it may be important
to live closer to work or the stores you need or making
your work day virtual so your home is your office.

—————————————————-
About The Author: Charles Carter offers excellent knowledge
into environmental issues. See more information at
http://www.erasecarbonfootprint.com/ .

Top Secret Bulletproof Budget Plan for Better Recession Busting. (Part 2)

This article is a continuation of a two part series on a
simple but effective budget plan to fight debt.

7. Fun Stuff. This is the items you do for entertainment or
relaxing. Could be a night on the town, fast food when
running to the next sports practice, travel, or other items
that may actually make life worth living some days. It is
vital that you don't think of this category in a negative
light, it is important; just make sure to keep track of
your spending. In fact, like food diet don't' work if you
take out ALL the tasty food, money "diets" won't work if
there is no room to treat yourself, reward yourself for the
hard work in all the other categories.

8. Insurance, All types of insurance, health, life,
homeowners, renters, auto or any other forms of insurance.

9. Miscellaneous, This is what doesn't fall under
everything else. The most important item to put here is
your personal debt. This includes your payments to debt
such as credit cards or personal loans.

10. Tired of working for the man expenses, This is for the
category of expenses to apply to your
business, savings or investment expenses.

These folder and catagories help to keep you organized when
tax time rolls around. You're not done yet. Setting up your
plan is just the first step. The next important step is to
track your money from the moment you spend it. So copy down
the categories and put them in your pocket or purse.

Every time you make a purchase check that receipt to make
sure the charges are correct. Then pull out the list with
categories, find which category the debt is from and write
the category on the receipt. When your home at night,
gather all your receipts and file them in the correct
category folder.

Now go and balance your account, yes do this every night.
After a while it will only take a few minutes out of your
day. This will not only give you a clear understanding of
your debt load, it helps you develop a plan to eliminate
debt and start living life with less stress.

It also gives you a sense of oneness with your money, a
sense of power. Because you will start to see exactly
where all your money goes. Too many of us don't know
because we're too stressed out at the thought of finding
out. If you start doing this budget plan your have a clear
picture of your cash flow and debt. But debt will not stop
if you don't quit buying that big screen television or
visiting that expensive spa every month to de-stress
yourself from all that credit card debt you accumulated.
You have to start paying the debt down, and then when your
rainy day fund is large and you are not buried in debt you
can take that dream vacation.

In the mean time don't forget you have the category of Fun
Stuff and those are micro mini vacations. Learn to enjoy
and savor your moments out, even if it's fast food. It
isn't going to be easy, but it is going to be very, very
rewarding and empowering.

When you start paying off that debt, start with the small
debt first, apply all you can to it. When that debt is
paid off, take all that money and apply it to the next
highest debt, plus that debts amount you're paying. Before
you know it there will be light at the end of the tunnel.
You'll feel weight lifting off you, weight you may not even
realize has been holding you down.

Hang in there, watch your money and make your money work
for you, high debt only means your money works for the
mortgage company and works for the credit card companies,
not you. You earned that money; the banks just want to
separate you from your money. Quit letting your money work
for the credit card companies, the mortgage company and put
it to work for you. Start saving and investing today.

This might seem like a boring tedious process, but these
steps have been proven put many people on the path to
wealth and freedom so take heed and start today.

—————————————————-
MJ Jensen has studied Real Estate from the Homeowners
perspective for over 20 years.
